The lyrics of “Memory” came out very naturally over David’s instrumental. I try and put myself back to 2017 and my 7 year love affair had ended and I thought how much I had wished that I had taped even one conversation with my boyfriend at the beginning – and how if I had recorded myself then all the things I had loved about him could inform my future self every time I got angry with him! If only every marriage that breaks up had a record of the beginning. I think remembering the beginning is so important.

However, at the same I was thinking this probably I was subconsciously affected by what was around me. I worked for the husband of a lady who had been very glamorous back in the day and she had had a brain haemorrhage. I would see her every day sitting listening to classical music in the sitting room.

Over the course of the 7 years I only really knew her from her autobiography that she wrote as she was quite famous at the time. I always wished as I looked at these incredible photographs dotted around the house that I could jump into even one of the frames and just spend half an hour with her as she was before. She had not lost her memory but it was strange – it came in and out like waves. Sometimes she would say “Who are you?” And sometimes it was crystal clear.

These were all things going on in my mind at the time.

Many years later I got given some Dave Brubeck CDs and now when I hear it I can’t wait to get to the drums.

What a fantastic interesting production David Baron has created and those drums by Ben Perowsky well he could be Joe Morello!

I am so pleased this song has found a release. It was a song that wasn’t chosen for release back then. I particularly love the vocal effects by David, which really compliment the melody I am singing and create a pulse. I am very proud of it and David Baron’s cinematic production is perfect.
