Boy In The Lighthouse

from Some Infinities Are Larger Than Others by David Baron

/

about

Boy in the Lighthouse is a psych-rock-jazz piece based on reminiscence about being a little boy that was taken to Montauk, NY for a weekend trip. I was so excited. There’s a surreal quality of love. Also loss since my parents are both gone. Don Byron provides a weaving dialog between sax and bass clarinet. The Emu Modular synthesizer goes through a French loop pedal that doesn’t like to cooperate with standard musical time. It slips and slides. I don’t play guitar or bass very well so there’s a bit of a punk aspect to the rhythmic track. Tani Tabbal unites the piece. Tabbal has played with everyone from Sun Ra and Art Ensemble of Chicago to The Staple Singers. He has the 1970s Chicago scene in his DNA.
