Whisperers

by David Baron

supported by
Carsten Pieper
Carsten Pieper thumbnail
Carsten Pieper The prolific arranger/composer/producer/collaborator (eg Lenny Kravitz, among many others) with a solo album. The title song's story had me swallowing hard. Incredibly, its vocalist Fiona Glenn had been age 13 when they recorded the track!
The whole album is a melancholic affair, heavy on the strings and delivered by a great cast of musicians. Detailed credits can be found by clicking on the individual songs.
A nice cover of Kate Bush's classic Running Up... is included. Favorite track: Whisperers.
Emmanuel Codden

Emmanuel Codden David Baron is always sweet and soft music full of sensitivity. Music arangments are efficient seem minimalistics but often powerfull : Just what songs need with a very noce voice to sing them.

I usually don't like covers but he knows how to do a new face of well known tunes and "Running up that hill" is a good example.

As sweet as Agnes Obel ! Favorite track: Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush cover).

You feel you always walk alone But you never sense who is around you the less you speak – the silence grows more or less we’ll show You’re not alone now I will be your ghost I watch you dream and wake right through bathed in midnight blue the sacred morning Tears will echo every song forgotten and so strong The paleness after And I will be your ghost Everybody walks amongst us Everybody talks - but we’ve lost our words We’re just whisperers Stuck in shadows on the walls I know that we’ve all felt love And God I want to feel it again Let me in You’ve got to let me in I felt a tickle - heard a laugh We struggled in the past But not this moment Barely awake but always aware You’re always there You’re always with me Everybody walks amongst us Everybody talks - but we’ve lost our words We’re just whisperers Stuck in shadows on the walls I know that we’ve all felt love And God I want to feel it again Let me in You’ve got to let us in In the cool cool blue In the cool cool blue Everybody walks amongst us Everybody talks - but we’ve lost our words We’re just whisperers Stuck in shadows on the walls I know that we’ve all felt love And God I want to feel it again Let me in You’ve got to let us in I know that we’ve all felt love And God I want to feel it again Let me in You’ve got to let us in You’ve got to let us in You’ve got to let us in You’ve got to let us in Let me in

David Baron and Fiona Glenn – Plans (written by David Baron) Keep your hands on the wheel And your mind in the game The order of time Switched up on you again It’s too late to turnaround You’re too nervous to sleep You sit by the road And weep We were never lovers Lost souls with plans The shape of your face is burned in my hands When the day steals the light You fall into the night Not helpless or cruel, just home You’re closer every day To finding your star Grown weary of the road, travelled too far We were never lovers Lost souls with plans The shape of your face is burned in my hands Hold me dear Hold me We were never lovers Lost souls with plans The shape of your face is burned in my hands No we’ll never be lovers And we’ll never have plans But tonight, we’ll pretend

In a maze of unknowns Are they safe? In the unknown Are they sleeping? In the unknown Are they dark and cold? Unknown. I’m just a victim of bad bad love Did I do the right thing for you, my love? I’m just a victim of bad bad love Did I do the right thing for you, my love? Pull me back Pull me back Pull me back They say, they’ll find them Miles away Can you find them? I know they fight on Without me Uncertain They need me I’m just a victim of bad bad love Did I do the right thing for you, my love? I’m just a victim of bad bad love Did I do the right thing for you, my love? Pull me back Pull me back Pull me back I’m just a victim of bad bad love Did I do the right thing for you, my love? I’m just a victim of bad bad love Did I do the right thing for you, my love?

Now it feels just like I’m falling Baby, caught up in a landslide Yeah, it feels just like I’m falling ‘Cause there’s something in the air tonight Oh, I can hear the night is calling Still the one that is one my mind Baby, when the night is calling Oh, my love is holding out the line I’m rising and I’m falling And I’ll take you with me every time And I, play in the moonlight, play in the moonlight But I, will never leave you Now it feels just like I’m falling Baby, caught up in a landslide Now, it feels just like I’m falling ‘Cause there’s something in the air And I, play in the moonlight, play in the moonlight But I, will never leave you I can feel the air, can feel the air I can feel the air, can feel the air

Plant a garden, build a home before we disappear Leave well enough alone All that we hold dear Ain’t it time Ain’t it time to settle down I’m not here to save you No-one’s gonna blame you for everything that went wrong, no I remember on the day you Came running to me to save you Only you can save yourself There’s a moment when we freeze and history is dead, dead We’ll be on our bended knees gathered around the bed, the bed Ain’t it time Ain’t it time to settle down I’m not here to save you No-one’s gonna blame you for everything that went wrong, no I remember on the day you Came running to me to save you Only you can save yourself

what is love without speaking? when is silence stronger than words? frozen in our hearts it’s frozen in my mind tattered pictures and all we leave behind where do you go? who do you cling to? when nights get cold what is the downfall of our human nature that makes us fall apart that lets us feel alone I walk the quiet path in the mountains i hear your laughter dimmed by snow and when the chill comes, i look for shelter from the wind and my restless mind where do you go? and who do you cling to? when nights get cold what is the downfall of our human nature that makes us fall apart that lets us feel alone ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh and what is the downfall of our human nature that makes us fall apart that lets us feel alone and this is the downfall of our human nature everything breaks apart and then we will feel alone

I want to be I just want to be heard I want you to listen to my words You can see, when you turn around Know you failed the people of no concern I want you to be If you only you heard You let me down Into the earth You can’t see, when you turn your back You can’t hear, the sound you’re calling out You know you failed the people of no concern You can’t see, when you turn your back You can’t hear, the sound you’re calling out You know you failed the people of no concern

Sentir l'âme, la toucher Un moment est tout sauf momentané Une âme m’a touchée pour l’éternité Elle doit rester libre Mais je la retiens le temps d’un soupir English Translation: To feel the soul and to touch it a moment is anything but fleeting a soul touched me for eternity it must remain free but I hold it back just for the length of a sigh

A quiet world awaits you Where you go home When you are weary A great big world awaits you And you’ll be ready To take it on I can’t give you everything But I’ll give you all I can I promise you a better life Than the one I had So many loves await you And you’ll be tall Where you stand I know you are strong boy But you’ll be a stronger man I can’t give you everything But lord I know I’ll try I promise you a better life Than the one I had It’s God’s hammer born in your hand The wisdom and vision to understand All of the roads that take a boy to a man All of the roads that take a boy to a man I can’t give you everything (But) Lord, you’ll know I’ll try No, I can’t give you everything Lord you’ll know I’ll try Until I die

Separate from time and let go of your mind, falling through your life Remembering all the words, even ones you barely heard Always one step closer Memories in the dust, endless wanderlust We’re always getting closer We’re sending messages to ourselves We write them everyday Leaving signs in the dark place on the road about ourselves, about us In your life, you’ll build a home, fill it with things you hold dear Take the hand of your true love, and gently bathe a child, before you disappear We’re sending messages to ourselves We write them everyday Leaving signs in the dark place on the road about ourselves, about us One by one we’re born we grow and we Sent messages to ourselves People wrote them everyday Ancient signs in the dark place on the road about the ones who came before We’re sending messages to ourselves We write them everyday Leaving signs in the dark place on the road about ourselves and what we did, and who we cared for, about us, about us

about

DAVID BARON
David Baron's sound is influenced by Woodstock where he's based, analogue and modular synths which he collects and Classical Music which he's scored in great abundance. When not making music for UK label Here & Now Recordings, Baron works with The Lumineers, Lenny Kravitz, Bat For Lashes, Simone Felice, Meghan Trainor, Shawn Mendes, Phoebe Bridgers, Josin, Melanie De Biasio, Conor Oberst, Peter Murphy (from Bauhaus) and is lead composer and soundtrack producer for Gregory Colbert’s follow up to Ashes & Snow. Ashes & Snow was the most attended exhibition by any living artist ever with the feature film soundtracked by the late Jóhann Jóhannsson.

WHISPERERS song
“Whisperers is about my daughter Tamara who passed shortly before her second birthday of a sudden illness. I wrote the song after passing her urn every day and feeling sad for her. I thought about all the life she missed, the love, school, everything. My son Oskar has been growing up - getting bigger. Her pictures remain the same as his go through all the various stages of childhood. Tamara is perpetually two-years old. She lost her voice. She aches for the love in Whisperers. Fiona has the perfect voice for the song. She is also approximately the same age that Tamara would have been. She is an old soul. She has both beauty and pain in her voice. For me, Fiona bridges the gap between our world and the one that Tamara is sadly in.”
David Baron, 2020

Whisperers is primarily a string quintet piece with some doubling. Zachary Alford (Bowie, B52s) plays drums while Byron Issacs (Lumineers, Levon Helm) plays bass. I played Steinway grand piano. I tried to write a piece that has an emotional pop melody set in a chamber music context.
