Don't Give Up

by David Baron and Fiona Glenn

/
1.

about

‘Don’t Give Up’ is a piano ballad with a throwback rhythm section which was inspired by soul records of the late 1970s. A live forty-piece string section creates a blossom around Fiona’s rich voice, creating a retro-modern production using both modern high fidelity and antique recording gear.

Baron wrote the lyrics for his beloved wife, following a health issue that he faced last year - and this song is a testament to her for standing by him throughout whilst he was feeling incredibly isolated. Intending the song to help others who may be feeling hopeless, ‘Don’t Give Up’ is an especially poignant song for everyone whilst we are all experiencing confusion and hopelessness in some way during the Covid-19 pandemic.

David Baron, based in Woodstock, upstate New York, is a composer, producer, arranger, performer, orchestrator and engineer. Baron has worked with countless music legends throughout his career. From Lenny Kravitz over the last 20 years, programming, mixing and producing to playing synths on the Mercury Music Prize 2016 shortlisted album 'The Bride' by Bat For Lashes and working extensively with The Lumineers. Baron also lended his mixing, orchestrating and string arrangements services to Shawn Mendes’ on his Number One album, ‘Illuminate (Deluxe)’ and on Meghan Trainor's 'All About That Bass’ - one of the biggest selling singles ever (he played piano, organ and baritone sax), receiving a RIAA Diamond Award for his role. He's even collaborated with Roy Ayers on a rework of Smokey Robinson 'Quiet Storm' for the Motown Remix album.

In 2017 Baron scored a film for The Lumineers called 'The Ballad Of Cleopatra', and is currently scoring Gregory Colbert's follow up to the award winning Ashes & Snow (edited by Oscar winning Pietro Scalia, soundtrack by Jóhann Jóhannsson).

Fiona Glenn was born and raised in the beautiful Mid-Hudson Valley in New York State. She is just 16 years old, and has been singing ever since she could talk - a natural born talent.

Day to day, Fiona can often be found noodling around on her guitar, and she also very much enjoys watching movies with her dogs - who doesn’t?!

Fiona has already had the honor of singing with an array of amazing artists including: Pete Seeger, Natalie Merchant, Elizabeth Mitchell, Simi Stone, Amy Helm, Amy Fradon, Betty & the Baby Boomers, Roger the Jester and the Vanaver Caravan.
